First Grade Teacher
Seacoast Waldorf School in Eliot, Maine is seeking Waldorf Trained Teacher for 1st Grade in the 2017-2018 school year. We recently moved into a newly renovated building with 5 acres of land and woods. This year construction began on new middle school building including classrooms and community hall. Our school is growing and thriving. Seacoast Waldorf School is located on the beautiful coast of the southern Maine-New Hampshire border, only an hour from Boston, MA, Portland, Maine and the White Mountains of NH. Woodworking Teacher
Seacoast Waldorf School is seeking a part-time Woodworking Teacher for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year as well as the 2017-2018 school year. This position will involve teaching four instructional periods (to be scheduled late morning and/or afternoon, one or more days a week) and includes two hours of paid prep time per week. This position is paid hourly with compensation based on years of experience, degree, and/or relevant Waldorf Education training. The Waldorf woodworking curriculum includes tree identification and understanding of wood uses, the study of concave and convex shapes, the carving of bowls and spoons using hand tools, the creation of more complex projects using joinery techniques, as well as both individual and collective projects that the students design themselves as their skills develop. The Waldorf woodworking teacher helps our students to develop the skillful use of hand tools such as saws, rasps, gouges and mallets. This position requires an overall knowledge of the Waldorf woodworking and practical activities curriculum for 3rd through 6th grade. We are seeking a, highly organized, responsible, enthusiastic, warm and motivated person with a friendly disposition to become a part of the special and unique SWS team. The individual hired for this position may be required to attend specialized Waldorf Education training programs or workshops or visit other Waldorf schools. Additionally, the SWS Woodworking Teacher will be expected to:
- Believe deeply in the mission and values of Seacoast Waldorf School
- Demonstrate strong Waldorf Education pedagogy and effective classroom management
- Plan and lead weekly age-appropriate woodworking classes for 3rd and 6th grades based on the rhythms of the seasons and school year
- Plan and lead classes centered on practical service and light construction projects for 3rd and 6th grades
- Develop/oversee the school’s woodworking program
- Prepare progress reports for each student
- Organize and maintain tools and supplies necessary to the program
- Hold high expectations for each student and exhibit positive rapport with students
- Continually improve Waldorf Education teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
- Demonstrate initiative and integrity
- Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all classroom teachers and parents
- Attend all required staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Woodworking skills, using hand tools.
- Woodworking teaching experience.
- Related prior job experience, including experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
- Waldiorf teaching experience preferred.
